Trillian was founded more than 11 years ago with the goal of helping people who say ‘I can't reach my friends because they use a chat program that I don't.’ With the Trillian client, people can now chat with their friends across different programs, including Facebook, Windows Live, AIM, Google Talk, and now, Skype.
Skype integration has always been a feature request from people using Trillian. However, the developers at Trillian had been using an older version of the Skype Desktop API, which still required Skype’s desktop client to be running, which was not an ideal solution. “Now, with the latest integration of SkypeKit for Desktop, we have been able to bring native Skype integration into our application,” said Scott Werndorfer, founder and development lead for Trillian.
As a native C/C++ shop, Trillian developers were able to quickly integrate Skype into Trillian's existing plug-in architecture. “We found the online documentation to be detailed and helpful, and also appreciated the code comments scattered throughout most header files. In the rare case we were tripped up by an issue, the developer forums were always there to offer a helping hand,” added Werndorfer.
Adding ‘native’ Skype integration to Trillian using SkypeKit for Desktop has resulted in a huge improvement in the overall experience for Trillian shared customers for Skype. “We've done a fair bit of work in this area ourselves and understand how difficult it can be. We're excited that we can now expose our customers to Skype’s audio and video calling solution using SkypeKit for Desktop,” concluded Werndorfer.
